Issue #004
Peter Mendelsund
Jacket Mechanical

Astonishing in the consistency of his playfulness; a master amateur, a cerebral primitive. Respectfully irreverent, classically contemporary, a designer pianist artist philosopher, Peter Mendelsund is the (incredibly) self-taught Associate Art Director for Knopf, one of the largest publishing imprints in the world.

The genius of Mendelsund's work is not only in his ability to condense massive concepts down to their beautiful, irreducible graphic symbols, but to consistently do so almost entirely free of gimmick or preconception. Mendelsund's work is a study in graphic forms born entirely of concept and self-evidence.
